Ildikó HORN

The study hereby reviews all forms of entertainment practiced by the aristocracy starting from those related to or organized at the noblemen’s castles to those meant to offer a meeting place for people of the same rank, from card games and other gambling games to music and dancing, parties and carnivals, to forms of entertainment done on the large aristocratic domains like group sports or ball games. From among all the forms of entertainment the most popular was hunting. In the premodern era painting, outing, visiting and going to spas and swimming were also very fashionable.
